I realize that Zagreb’s heart lies not in one place. And such is its charm and magnetism that it can ensnare every visitor. I think I will leave a bit of my own heart back in Zagreb. But then again, I buy a licitar heart, and a piece of Zagreb will now be with me, gently reminding me of the thrum of a place located thousands of miles away.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival to Zagreb
After your arrival at the airport and transfer to a hotel, an early dinner and evening visit of Zagreb, capital and the biggest town of Croatia. The first recorded appearance of its name dates back to 1094. With centuries of colorful influences by Hungary and Austria, discover why tourists sometimes refer to it as a “small Vienna”.
Day 2
Zagreb
Rising above the city like a guardian is the Medvednica Mountain Nature Park (Bear Mountain), the most popular hiking destination for citizens of Zagreb. We will hike up to its peak, Sljeme (1035 m) and visit the 13th century castle Medvedgrad on the way. In the late afternoon a cultural guide will take us for a tour of the old center of Zagreb.
Day 3
Zagreb – NP Risnjak – Delnice
After early breakfast we will be leaving the hotel and heading west to one of the oldest National Parks in Croatia – Risnjak. It’s a part of a mountain region called Gorski Kotar which is rich with forest, plant and animal life. Our route will take us through tall birch and silver fir trees up to more than 1500 m and one of the most beautiful mountain huts in the area – Schlosser Hut. We’ll spend the night in a hotel in a small town of Delnice just at the entrance of the Park.
Day 4
Delnice – NP Učka – Delnice
An hour drive from Delnice is the Nature Park Učka dividing the biggest Croatian peninsula from the rest of the country. Its highest point Vojak rises up to 1400 m and offers spectacular views over the islands of Kvarner Bay, peaks of Julian Alps and inland Istria. Depending on available time we’ll visit Opatija – the cradle of Croatian tourism from the 19th century situated at the foothills of Učka. Return and overnight in Delnice.
Day 5
Delnice – NP Northern Velebit – Zadar
After a very early start we’ll drive to the north part of Velebit Mountain. We’ll go on a long hike alongside its ridge on the Premužić trail, with unique constructions allowing visitors to enjoy stunning views of carst formations and vegetation on one side and the Adriatic Sea on the other. The trail was designed almost 80 years ago at an average elevation of 1500 m and it’s considered the most attractive mountaineering destination in Croatia. Drive to Zadar and overnight in a hotel.
Day 6
Zadar – NP Kornati – Zadar
Todays activities start on the hotel beach – we’ll go on a longer boat drive to the heart of the National Park Kornati Islands. It’s a formation of 150 islands with very little vegetation, high cliffs looking towards the open sea and no permanent settlements. Highest point of 250 m doesn’t sound demanding but sharp rocks, sun and no shade will make it challenging enough. We’ll enjoy a traditional fish lunch on the boat. After return we’ll visit the old town of Zadar with history going back more than 2000 years to the time of Illyrians and Romans.
Day 7
Zadar – NP Paklenica – Zadar
Just a half hour drive from Zadar is the National Park Paklenica on the south slopes of Velebit Mountain. Entrance of the park is marked with high limestone cliffs going up to 800 m and is the most popular climbing destination in Croatia. Our hike will take us through the canyon to the higher parts of Paklenica which are less visited by tourists. Overnight in Zadar.
Day 8
Zadar – NP Krka – Zadar
Easy day with a morning walk from Skradin to the biggest waterfall cascades in Croatia – Skradinski Buk. Its formations were used to build the second hydro plant in the world in 1895, just a few days after the one on Niagara Falls. Beauty and historical richness of Krka River and its area make it “the place to visit” for every guest. Optional visit to the old town Šibenik. Return and overnight in Zadar.
Day 9
Zadar – NP Plitvice – Zagreb
Early morning start and drive north to National Park Plitvice Lakes, the most popular national park in Croatia and one of the most beautiful parks in Europe. Rich green vegetation, crystal blue and green color of water, numerous waterfalls and sixteen lakes will give this trip spectacular closure which it deserves. Late afternoon – evening arrival in Zagreb.
Day 10
