Croatia, A Mediterranean Fantasy 01 - Zagreb

Day 1

 

Arrival to Zagreb

After your arrival at the airport and transfer to a hotel, an early dinner and evening visit of Zagreb, capital and the biggest town of Croatia. The first recorded appearance of its name dates back to 1094. With centuries of colorful influences by Hungary and Austria, discover why tourists sometimes refer to it as a “small Vienna”.

Day 2

 

Zagreb – NP Plitvice Lakes – Zadar

After breakfast we’ll drive to the Plitvice Lakes National Park – UNESCO World Natural Heritage – sixteen lakes interconnected with waterfalls that were created by the deposition of a special kind of limestone, nature taking the role of an artist and presenting us one of its wonders.  After walking through the park and enjoying the beauty of Plitvice, we’ll drive to the coastal town of Zadar. Free time for leisurely activities and overnight stay.

Day 3

 

Zadar

Zadar – the city for which Alfred Hitchcock said has the most beautiful sunset in the world. Like many other cities in Croatia, Zadar was ruled by Venetians, Austrians, French, Naples, among others, and yet maintained a strong influence of Croatian artists through all that time. You’ll arrive in Zadar in the afternoon hours and commence the sightseeing of Zadar and its cultural richness – from the Roman times through middle Ages to the modern days. Only the center of Zadar has around 70 architectural works of art.
In the evening you’ll enjoy the beautiful sunset and walk along the peninsula of the old part of town. Relax sitting by the sea and listening to the concert of the Sea Organs whose soft melody is produced by the waves themselves. The town is also world know by the unique Greeting to the Sun which is located on the town’s promenade next to the Sea Organs. Overnight in Zadar.

Day 4

 

Zadar – NP Kornati

In the morning excursion to the beautiful Kornati islands.
The Kornati islands are an archipelago consisting of 140 islands covering an area of 114 square miles (300 square km). Most of the islands are part of the Kornati National Park – and with its natural beauty, numerous coves and crystal-clear blue waters, it’s easy to see why.
After the excursion, you’ll return to Zadar. The rest of the day is free to enjoy the liveliness of the city and at night join the rich nightlife which the town has to offer. Overnight stay.

Day 5

 

Zadar – Šibenik – Split

Today we’ll drive to Split and, on the way, stop in Šibenik- the city with a UNESCO World Heritage Cathedral of St. Jacob, the only building in Europe constructed before the 19th century which contains no masonry elements. Afterwards you will continue towards Split where you will walk through the old part of the town, trough charming narrow streets between old stone houses that surround the UNESCO’s Heritage Site- The palace of Roman emperor Diocletian. Strolling through the historical and cultural core of the town, the path leads to the “green soul” and biggest pride of Split’s inhabitants- protected forest park on the Marjan hill that overlooks many islands which spread around of Split. It is a peaceful area for walking, relaxing and enjoying the view of the town and blue sea scattered with islands.
The rest of the day is free to enjoy the liveliness of the city and at night join the rich nightlife which the town has to offer. Overnight stay.

Day 6

 

Split – NP Krka

Your morning will be free to enjoy the beauties of the coast. In the afternoon we’ll visit the National Park Krka. Easy day with a morning walk from Skradin to the biggest waterfall cascades in Croatia – Skradinski Buk. Its formations were used to build the second hydro plant in the world in 1895, just a few days after the one on Niagara Falls. Beauty and historical richness of Krka River and its area make it “the place to visit” for every guest. We’ll return in the evening and the rest of the night is free to enjoy the liveliness of the city and at night join the rich nightlife which the town has to offer. Overnight stay.

Day 7

 

Split – Korčula – Dubrovnik

After breakfast we’ll take the ferry to the island of Korčula. Rich in vineyards, olive groves and small villages, and harboring a glorious old town, the island of Korčula is the sixth-largest Adriatic island. Tradition is alive and kicking on Korčula, with age-old religious ceremonies, folk music and dances still being performed. After your sightseeing of the island, you will take the ferry from the island to Dubrovnik. Check in at the hotel and overnight stay.

Day 8

 

Dubrovnik

After breakfast you will go sightseeing of the old center of Dubrovnik which is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Dubrovnik has managed to preserve its gothic, renaissance and baroque churches, monasteries and fountains. The old part of the town is surrounded by well-preserved city walls along which you can walk on and admire the picturesque views of stone houses and relaxed Mediterranean life going on in the streets. You cannot miss the main street – Stradun which is a wide walking area that connects many smaller streets where you can find different small souvenir shops, restaurants and coffee shops. The Pearl of the Adriatic became a very popular tourist destination that attracts many tourists and famous people around the world. The rest of the day is free for individual activities.

Day 9

 

Dubrovnik – Zagreb

After breakfast we’ll drive to Dubrovnik airport and board a flight to Zagreb. Upon our arrival we’ll check in at the hotel. You’ll have some free time in the evening to take a walk around the city center and enjoy the nightlife in Zagreb. Overnight in Zagreb.

Day 10

 

Zagreb

After breakfast we’ll go sightseeing of the 900-year-old Zagreb, the political, administrative, business and cultural center of Croatia. You will make a circle around the center and walk along the Lenuzzi green horseshoe which is formed by a chain of parks around which some of the most beautiful buildings in Zagreb are situated. You will finish the tour by visiting the old part of the city, Kaptol and Gradec. The rest of the day is free for your own exploration. Overnight in Zagreb.

Departure from Zagreb

After breakfast, the bus will transfer you to the airport for your departure according to your flight details.
