About this trip
Capital and the largest city in Croatia, Zagreb, lies under south slopes of forested mountain and nature park Medvednica. Its growing popularity is based on unique mixture of Central and East European influences on the road to the Adriatic coast. Since its first recorded appearance in 1094. it has developed from two small city centers – Kaptol with most inhabitants being clergy and Gradec inhabited mainly by farmers and merchants. Zagreb is now administrative, economical, educational and cultural focal point of the region with variety of daily events for different kind of travelers, from business people, tourist who are looking for exciting night life to fans of colorful history or nearby hiking destinations.
Type of the travel:
- Classical trip which doesn’t demand special preparations and is mostly orientated on sightseeing of historical monuments and natural beauties without long walking distances. Occasional early starts in the morning and late evenings with longer and heavier days caused by long drives and intensive itinerary.
Itinerary
Day 1: Zagreb D
arrival to Zagreb Arrival at Zagreb airport. Transfer to the hotel and check-in. Overnight in Zagreb
Day 2: Zagreb B, D
After breakfast commence sightseeing of the 900 years old Zagreb, political, administrative, business and cultural center of Croatia. We will make a circle around the center and walk along Lenuzzi green horseshoe which is formed by chain of parks around which are situated some of the most beautiful buildings in Zagreb. We will finish by visiting old part of the city with its Kaptol and Gradec. The rest of the day is free for your own exploration. Overnight in Zagreb. (3 hours sightseeing by the local guide)
Day 3: Zagreb – Krapina – Trakošćan – Zagreb B, D
We start the morning with a drive to north-west part of Zagreb in the area filled with history and natural beauties. Our first stop is Krapina and newly reconstructed museum about famous Paleolithic archaeological site. In the nearby caves scientist found numerous remains of Neanderthals from 100 000 years ago which are now exhibited in one of the most exciting museums in Croatia. After educational tour we continue to unique Trakošćan castle built between 13th and 16th century. Positioned on the small hill above the lake it is a star representative of medieval noblemen who ruled this region for hundreds of years. We’ll have time to learn about their heritage and enjoy scenery which surrounds it. On the way back to Zagreb we’ll stop for a short shopping visit. Overnight in Zagreb
Day 4: Zagreb B, D
Rising above city like a guardian is Nature Park Medvednica Mountain (Bear Mountain), the most popular hiking destination for citizens of Zagreb. We’ll hike up to its peak Sljeme (1035m) and visit 13th century castle Medvedgrad on the way. In the late afternoon cultural guide will take us for a tour in old core of Zagreb.
Day 5: Zagreb B
After the breakfast departure home.
